Celebrating 40 Years of ChambersFest

The 40th Annual ChambersFest took over Chambersburg last week and brought the community together for multiple events to celebrate the most historic week of the year.
The Tim & Susan Cook 1-Mile Race kicked the week off July 11. Alex Orr came in first place for the female race, and John Mascioli for the male race. Later in the day, ice cream parlors gathered for the 17th Annual Scoop-a-Palooza where CVBA member, Leota’s Ice Cream, was voted Favorite Fruit for its black raspberry flavor. More information can be found on the Facebook page.
Also, a part of ChambersFest, Restaurant Week went on with 19 locations participating throughout Chambersburg. Daily prizes were given away at random to a participant who entered the raffle by posting it to the Facebook page.
On Saturday, Old Market Day closed downtown streets with a variety of vendors from food trucks to handmade gifts. Local performances by Totem Pole Playhouse, the Cumberland Valley School of Music, and New Horizons went on to spread local theater and music.

The 40th Annual weeklong celebration ended with the grand finale of the Burning of Chambersburg Reenactment celebrating the rebirth of the town 162 years ago. Actors put on a performance and commemorate history. The four buildings that were originally burned were projected in orange lights and had smoke coming from them to bring the visuals to life.
This festival would not be possible without the sponsors and everyone who came to support these events. Special thanks to the ChambersFest corporate sponsors, WellSpan, VerStanding Media, The Franklin Shopper, McAlister’s Deli, Chambersburg Area Development Corp., and Teflon Roofing. Thank you for helping Chambersburg come alive for this week.
