Local Business Owner Named 2026 Pharmacist of the Year

Wayne Myers, PharmD, owner of Norland Avenue Pharmacy in Chambersburg and Carl’s Drug Store in Greencastle, has been named Pharmacist of the Year by the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association (PPA).
This prestigious award recognizes a pharmacist who demonstrates exceptional leadership, innovation, patient care, and advocacy for the profession. Dr. Myers’ selection reflects more than two decades of dedication to advancing independent community pharmacy and expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care across Pennsylvania.
Dr. Myers has owned Norland Avenue Pharmacy since 2001. In 2023, he expanded his commitment to independent pharmacy by purchasing Carl’s Drug Store in Greencastle—recognized as the oldest continuously operating independent pharmacy in the United States. His acquisition preserved a historic community institution and prevented its sale to a national chain, ensuring that personalized, relationship-driven care remains available in Greencastle.
Advocate for Pharmacy and Patients
Dr. Myers is a passionate advocate for pharmacy reform and patient access. Over the past year, he has met with multiple elected officials to address critical issues impacting independent pharmacy, including the role of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). In March, he met with John Joyce, followed by April meetings with Pennsylvania State Representatives Rob Kauffman and Chad Reichard. He also participated in Pennsylvania State Legislative Day in Harrisburg, joining pharmacists and student pharmacists in advocating for meaningful legislative reform.
Innovator in Practice
Under Dr. Myers’ leadership, Norland Avenue Pharmacy earned PCAB accreditation for non-sterile compounding in 2016, expanding access to personalized medications tailored to individual patient needs while displaying an unparalleled commitment to quality.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Myers transformed the pharmacy into a community health hub—offering CLIA-waived point-of-care testing, monoclonal antibody treatments, and vaccinations. Today, his pharmacies continue to expand immunization services both in-store and through off-site community clinics.
His pharmacies are leaders in Pennsylvania for participation in insurance-based payer programs and have earned DSMES accreditation to provide Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. Following Pennsylvania’s recognition of pharmacists as Medicaid providers, Dr. Myers became a registered provider and ensured that every pharmacist on his team obtained provider status. He is actively guiding the credentialing and contracting process within state Medicaid programs to fully realize expanded pharmacist services.
Most recently, he enrolled Norland Avenue Pharmacy as a Long Term Care at Home pharmacy, increasing medication packaging and delivery services to improve safety, adherence, and access for vulnerable patients.
Commitment to Community
Dr. Myers is known not only for clinical innovation but for intentional leadership and community investment. He cultivates a workplace culture of gratitude and growth—personally writing letters of appreciation to employees, recognizing team members monthly, and supporting attendance at professional conferences and continuing education events. Monthly staff meetings focus on education, team-building, and transparent communication regarding financial performance and strategic goals.
Beyond the pharmacy walls, Dr. Myers hosts free monthly health seminars covering topics such as sleep, stress management, thyroid health, and heart health. He also provides ongoing patient education through social media platforms to increase public understanding of important health issues.
In August 2025, he led the celebration of Carl’s Drug Store’s 200th anniversary, honoring its historic legacy while educating the community about the future of pharmacy and the need for reform. The milestone event reflected his commitment to preserving tradition while boldly advancing the profession.
Dr. Myers’ service extends internationally and locally. In 2023, he participated in a medical mission trip to Guatemala, providing pharmacy services to underserved populations. Since 2012, he has sponsored and participated in the “Race Against Poverty,” with the Norland Avenue Pharmacy team earning first place in 2025. He currently serves as vice-chair of the board of directors for Shalom Christian Academy and is involved with Joy El Camps and Retreats.
“In every season, pharmacy has been about service,” said Dr. Myers. “I’m honored to stand alongside so many pharmacists who are working to protect patient access, strengthen independent pharmacy, and elevate what our profession can offer our communities.”
Dr. Wayne Myers’ career embodies the core values of independent pharmacy—service, integrity, innovation, and community care—making him a deserving recipient of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association’s 2026 Pharmacist of the Year Award.
