Carl’s Drug Store Marks 200 Years with Community Celebration

On Friday, August 8, the Greencastle community came together to celebrate a truly historic milestone: the 200th anniversary of Carl’s Drug Store, the nation’s oldest continually operating independent pharmacy. Hosted at the store’s longtime location on North Antrim Way in Greencastle, Pa., the day-long celebration honored two centuries of trusted care, local ownership, and enduring commitment to community.
Carl’s welcomed customers, friends, and neighbors to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime event filled with giveaways, local flavor, and heartfelt gratitude. Guests enjoyed 20% off all regularly priced items, received a free commemorative ornament with each storefront purchase, and entered to win exciting door prizes—including a $200 cash grand prize.
A highlight of the celebration was the noon program, which drew a large crowd for a moment of recognition and reflection. Dr. Wayne Myers, pharmacist and current owner, shared remarks about the store’s remarkable journey and the families who have supported it through the decades.
Founded in 1825, Carl’s Drug Store has remained an enduring symbol of local, independent pharmacy—prioritizing personal care, health, and service for generation after generation. Still family- and pharmacist-owned, Carl’s continues to thrive as a vital part of downtown Greencastle and the greater Cumberland Valley region.
Carl’s Drug Store is an advocate member with the Cumberland Valley Business Alliance, Greencastle-Antrim Chamber and Chambersburg Chamber.
